Finally, after eleven conferences held nationwide, the National Conference of Vietnamese American Attorneys (NCVAA) held its 12th annual conference on August 3-4, 2018 in Atlanta, Georgia. This year’s event was co-hosted with the Vietnamese American Bar Association of Georgia (VABA-GA). Adding to the excitement, NCVAA also hosted its first Barristers’ Ball at the W Atlanta-Midtown Hotel.
NCVAA and VABA-GA are both non-profit organizations whose mission is threefold: (1) to promote the education and professional development of Vietnamese Americans in the legal community; (2) to support research and education on legal issues of significance to our community; and (3) to provide a statewide and national network for Vietnamese American attorneys to exchange ideas relating to the legal profession. Both organizations provide scholarships, mentorship, and networking opportunities for legal professionals and those who wish to pursue a career in law. Additionally, both organizations provide educational seminars and often collaborate with other organizations to educate the public on legal and civic issues.
Our conference, based on the theme “Rise Up”, kicked off on Friday, August 3, 2018 with a reception and networking event followed by a full-day conference the next day. The conference ended with an inspiring and entertaining Barristers’ Ball (a black-tie event), where two promising students were presented with academic scholarships. Many of us have made lifelong friends through this annual conference, which has proven to be a great venue for networking and fellowship.
